When questions become suspicions, then harsh truths<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jim Gance might be called a professional trouble-shooter, but now he is hunting for a murderer instead of problems in government agencies. When your job is looking for trouble, sometimes you can’t look away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gance, the elected auditor of Multnomah County, lost an employee to a fishing accident \u2012 that was the official conclusion anyway. But small contradictions raise bigger questions that eventually lead him into a criminal underworld, where he experiences threats and savage attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sheriff assigns a deputy to keep Gance out of trouble, but trouble still happens. Deb Morgan, the girlfriend of the dead employee, is determined to help Gance investigate the death, despite the dangers. Gance also enlists his audit staff to help find a trail to the killers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout, Gance still must lead his office, finding trouble where public plans meet reality. In this case, the resistance and discomfort of public officials when his performance auditors raise serious concerns about mental health services. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
